Upholstery Restoration for Two Family Chairs from Galveston

The Story Behind the Piece

Every piece of furniture that passes through our hands carries its own history and a collection of family memories. This was especially true for two cherished chairs belonging to a family in Galveston, Texas. Having accommodated multiple generations of use, the original upholstery on both chairs had finally failed, leaving them worn and unusable.

Because the client was located on Galveston Island—roughly sixty miles from our workshop—and could not transport the bulky pieces, we traveled to their home to pick up the chairs. These long drives across the Greater Houston area always offer a welcomed opportunity to reflect on the stories behind our projects and the value of preservation.

Back in the shop, we carefully disassembled the chairs. We stripped the old, failing layers down to the bare wooden structures to address years of wear. The wood was thoroughly sanded and prepped before we rebuilt the seating from the ground up, installing completely new padding, webbing, and beautiful replacement fabrics. The completed pieces were then safely delivered back to Galveston, fully restored and ready to serve future generations.
