Restoring a 55-Year Marriage Milestone: Cedar & Aluminum Glider Set
A couple married for 55 years brought in one of their first furniture purchases: a worn aluminum and cedar glider patio set. We meticulously sandblasted away decades of old paint, treated the new wood with a protective poly resin, and restored it to its original glory.
The Story Behind the Piece
A piece of furniture that survives decades of daily life becomes more than just a place to sit; it becomes a cherished landmark of a family's history. This patio set—consisting of glider seating with an aluminum frame and cedar slats—was one of the very first purchases made by a couple now married for 55 years. Over more than five decades, exposure to the elements had worn down the wood and left the painted metal surfaces heavily weathered.
The owners wanted to see their beloved set returned to like-new condition. The restoration process began with meticulous preparation. We used a sandblaster to carefully remove every last trace of the old, flaking yellow paint and surface corrosion from the metal frames, leaving a clean foundation for refinishing.
To ensure the restored set could withstand outdoor elements for years to come, we prepared and fitted new cedar wood. Each slat was treated with a high-performance lifeline poly resin, providing robust protection against moisture, UV rays, and wear. After reassembling the freshly coated frames and treated wood, the completed set was delivered back to the excited couple, fully restored to its original glory.
