She Wanted Something Her Daughter Would Love
A mother purchased a dresser and mirror through Facebook Marketplace, planning to refinish them for her teenage daughter. We transformed the exterior and rebuilt the drawers with new bottoms and backs for reliable everyday use.

The Story Behind the Piece
The dresser began as a hopeful Facebook Marketplace find.
A single mother saw potential in the matching dresser and mirror and brought them home with plans to refinish the set herself. Like many do-it-yourself projects, it started with good intentions: save a worthwhile piece of furniture, give it a fresh appearance, and create something special for her teenage daughter.
But as she looked more closely at the work ahead, she began to question whether the finished result would match what she had imagined.
Teenagers tend to have strong opinions about their rooms, and she wanted this dresser to feel polished—not like a project that had been rushed through between work, family responsibilities, and everything else competing for her time.
Rather than risk disappointing her daughter, she brought the set to us with one simple request:
Make it look new.
The exterior needed a complete transformation, but the real condition of the dresser went deeper than what could be seen from across the room. Several drawers had weakened bottoms and backs that would not provide the strength or durability the piece needed for everyday use.
A beautiful finish would not matter if the drawers failed after they were filled.
We refurbished the drawer boxes, replacing the damaged bottoms and backs so they could once again support clothing and personal belongings reliably. The dresser and mirror were then carefully prepared and refinished, giving the set a clean, updated appearance suitable for a teenager's room.
The transformation was dramatic.
The tired, peeling finish gave way to a fresh new color, while the mirror and decorative details allowed the set to retain its character. What had begun as a secondhand Marketplace purchase now looked intentional, coordinated, and ready to become part of a young woman's personal space.
The photographs show a substantial improvement, but some furniture transformations are difficult to capture fully through a camera.
In person, the finish has greater depth. The details feel more refined. The drawers have renewed strength, and the complete set has a presence that the before-and-after photographs only begin to show.
Most importantly, this project was not simply about refinishing a dresser.
It was about a mother wanting to give her daughter something she would be proud to have in her room—and recognizing that asking for help was the best way to achieve it.
A successful furniture restoration should look beautiful from the outside.
It should also be rebuilt well enough to support the life that will happen around it.
