Bringing a Custom Buddhist Shrine Down to a Safe, Accessible Height
When a beautifully built Buddhist shrine arrived too tall for an 80-plus-year-old mother to safely reach, Nafees Creations stepped in to help. We carefully modified the structure with three precise cuts, lowering the top from 6.5 feet to a safe 53 inches.
The Story Behind the Piece
A custom-made Buddhist shrine arrived built incredibly strong and with the golden rules of joinery, but a communication gap left one critical element ignored: the final height. The sisters who commissioned the piece for their 80-plus-year-old mother were devastated upon delivery. Standing at 6.5 feet tall, the top was far too high for their mother to reach safely, raising fears that she might attempt to climb a risky step ladder just to clean it.
Determined to make the shrine safe and functional for their mother, the family asked us to lower the overall height and cap it off at exactly 53 inches. This adjustment would allow their mother to easily reach and tend to the top shelf while keeping her feet safely on the floor.
We carefully measured the piece and made three fine, precise cuts through the structure and fluted columns to protect the integrity of the original joinery. Working continuously from 11:30 AM until 8:00 PM, we successfully lowered the shrine to the requested 53-inch limit, delivering a perfectly scaled, secure, and beautiful centerpiece for the family home.
