Insult to Injury

Years of age had already taken a toll on this coffee table when a hand truck carrying a refrigerator struck it and broke one of its legs. We rebuilt the leg and corner skirting, then refinished the entire table so it could return to daily use looking whole again.

Before and After Comparison

Before-and-after comparison of a damaged coffee table restored after impact damage and full refinishing.
From crippled and broken to renewed and dependable, the table received both structural reconstruction and a full refinishing.

The Story Behind the Piece

The coffee table had already seen years of use.

Time had left its mark in the way it often does on furniture that has been part of daily life for a long while. The finish had begun to show its age, and the table no longer looked as strong or as fresh as it once had. Still, it remained useful and familiar—one of those pieces that quietly belongs in the rhythm of a home.

Then came the real damage.

A hand truck carrying a refrigerator struck the table and broke one of its legs. The same impact also damaged the corner skirting. What had been an aging table suddenly became a crippled one. It could no longer stand or function the way it was meant to, and the accident turned ordinary wear into a much more serious repair.

That is how the table arrived to us: worn by time, then injured by impact.

The broken leg was the most urgent issue. A coffee table has to do more than look good; it has to stand securely and handle everyday use. The damaged structure had to be rebuilt so the piece could once again be stable and dependable.

We rebuilt the leg entirely and reconstructed the damaged corner skirting so the table could regain both its strength and its original proportions.

But restoring the structural damage alone would not have been enough.

The rest of the table still carried the effects of age, and a successful restoration needed to address the whole piece rather than only the single dramatic break. Once the structural work was complete, the entire table was carefully prepared and refinished so its renewed strength would be matched by a renewed appearance.

The result was a table that no longer looked battered by time and accident.

Instead of an aging piece with a broken leg, it once again became a complete and attractive coffee table ready for everyday use.

Furniture often survives years of ordinary wear without complaint.

What reveals its real condition is the unexpected moment when something goes wrong.

In this case, the collision with the hand truck may have been the final insult—but it also became the reason the table was fully brought back to life.
