Faux Marble Finish on Wooden Table

Due to lack of time I wanted to quickly make a table for the microwave in our office. I didn’t have the time for a fancy table so I made this simple design from all the scrap left over from other projects. I have always said that we need to get a bigger microwave so now was my chance to make a table big enough for the size I intend to get.  The total time I had for this project was under 4 hours. So here we go.

Painting Base Coat

Sanding is very crucial for a good paint job. How you sand will determine the quality of your product. Also the paint. It is very important to select the right kind of color. We went with Behr High Gloss which Home Depot sells.

Prepare Faux Surface

First I started sanding the base coated table with mid-grit sandpaper so that it will be ready to apply the top coat on it. Cleaned it well and then

I took white paint on a plastic plate. Dip the sea sponge into this and dab the sponge lightly on the tabletop.

Add Marble Veins

When the paint dried, I started making marble veins. Earlier it was quite difficult for me but as much as I practiced it on rough wood I made it possible for this table :)

For this, I dip a detail brush in diluted white or very light blue paint and add the fine line that looks like veins. I made it on all over the table and sides also on edges to give it a natural marble look.

Faux Marble – Finishing Touch

Now when I was done and satisfied with all veins and marble look of the table, I repeated this step for all three shelves I made on the table.

Earlier I gave this effect to the whole table I mean table legs and bottom as well, I was not happy with that and then I painted them grey.

When It was completely dried, I started applying the base coat of high-gloss glaze and again one more coat to protect the surface and give it the shine of marble.
