Now comes the more important question, what kind of paint? If you are not already a professional painter then go with chalk paint. Its more forgiving and goes on any kind of surface. Don’t need to sand or prepare the surface. Just clean it to make sure there is no dust or oily residue.

After you are done just rub some wax on to a nice shine and protection. By the way, if you want to change the color again, chalk paint will go over the wax just fine.

The next thing you would want to do to make old furniture look new is to change the hardware. You can go to a store but for a bargain go online to places like eBay. You will find a bigger variety for sure and for pennies on the dollar. The only thing I would warn you about is to take the time and read the description and dimensions carefully. Some sellers are very deceptive and won’t include another object in the photos for comparison. I respect the sellers who keep a quarter or some other commonly known object to give an idea. For those kind items which only have a close-up photo, I read the dimensions very carefully.
