There is something magical that happens during a wedding ceremony.  The friends and family gathered around the room look back and forth from the bride to the groom.  Through marriage, we are afforded the opportunity to explore each other potential and plan a life together.

In the Beginning

Once the concept was approved an animated model was developed to confirm the dimensions. Computers are amazing tools, they make cost controlling so effective. We can actually see a 3D animation without making any sawdust at all.

Inventors love these 3D animations, it gives shape to their ideas which brings more ideas to refine the original idea. This iteration leads to the final design sooner than the conventional drawing board process.

The animators work directly with the clients to ensure effective and fast communications. This stage is crucial because we pick all of the dimensions from the same 3D model.

Fabrication Begins

For optimization, It is prudent to get a blanket approval from the client to make minor changes to the overall dimensions.  Often changing the design by as little as a couple of inches may mean cutting wastage into the half. Once we make sure that the design is optimized, shopping lists are prepared for the raw material directly off of the 3D model.

A lot of care is taken when cutting pieces to final shape, especially if the design is modular. All parts of the module must fit perfectly together to create the intended look. The large format printer is very helpful in the sense that there is no distortion in transferring dimensions from the computer model to the actual workpiece. As you can see in the photos that each piece is remarkably identical.

Things We Should Care About

If you are building a similar piece, it will be wise to take a close look at all of the points below.

• Make sure that all pieces are cut to exact size and dry fit them prior to applying any glue. This will save you a bunch of time and hard work to shave overhangs off.
• Don’t forget to paste extra wood for support in all of the places where you intend on installing clamping mechanism to join the modules.
• Don’t close all sides of a piece restricting easy access to work behind the panels.
• Be very careful in understanding how your paint works. Give yourself enough time between coats.
• Slow curing enamel is often the best choice. This type of paint is slow curing but is very forgiving when it comes to ripples and brush marks. It levels itself out to a high gloss finish.

Completion

There will always be scuff marks and warehouse rashes on props. This is why it is important to give the client a can of touch paint and explain how to achieve the same quality finish. Take time to train clients about how to take care of props. How to lift them, transport and store them. Props are often made from a combination of materials which may interact with the atmosphere and react adversely.  Completed props are a work of art and should be treated as such.

There is always room for improvement and/or innovation. This is why encourage your clients to give feedback. Their complaints and praises are all equally important for evolution purpose. Every shop should know that there is competition out there who are waiting to exploit your weaknesses. Continually improve your game and stay connected.
